One mouse.Two computers

Move your mouse, keyboard and clipboard between your Mac and your Windows PC on the same Wi-Fi. Free, and set up in about ten minutes.

Which computer’s mouse will you use?

This is your main computer. Its mouse, keyboard and clipboard will work on both screens. You can swap later.

Step 1

Install Deskflow on both computers

Deskflow is a free, open-source app that does the sharing. Install it on your Mac and on your Windows PC.

On Windows, also install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable if Deskflow asks for it. Newer versions are always on the Deskflow releases page.

Step 2

Allow it on your Mac

Drag Deskflow into Applications. Apple may say the app is damaged because it isn’t notarised; open Terminal and run:

xattr -c /Applications/Deskflow.app

Then open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and switch on both Deskflow and deskflow. On macOS Sequoia or later, also allow Deskflow under Local Network.

Prefer Homebrew? This installs and keeps it updated instead:

brew tap deskflow/tap && brew install deskflow
Step 3

Set up your Mac as the main computer

  1. Open Deskflow on your Mac and choose Server (this computer shares its mouse and keyboard).
  2. Open the screen layout and drag a screen next to yours, on the side where your Windows PC sits on your desk.
  3. Name that screen exactly as Deskflow names your Windows PC (you’ll see the name on the Windows PC).
  4. Press Start. Deskflow shows this computer’s IP address, like 192.168.1.24. That is your pairing code.
Step 4

Pair your Windows PC

Type the code your Mac shows, and we’ll tell you exactly what to enter on the Windows PC.

Waiting for your code…

Step 5

Move across

  • Push your mouse off the edge of the Mac screen and it appears on the Windows PC.
  • Your keyboard types on whichever screen the mouse is on.
  • Copy on one computer, paste on the other.
  • To use the Windows PC’s mouse instead, swap: make it the Server and the Mac the Client.
Step 6

If it doesn’t connect

  • Both computers must be on the same Wi-Fi or network.
  • On Windows, allow Deskflow through the firewall on private networks. It uses port 24800.
  • On the Mac, re-check Accessibility and Local Network. After an update, remove Deskflow from the list and add it again.
  • Check the screen name in the layout matches the other computer’s name exactly.
